Originating from the Mughal era, the history of Punjabi juttis have a royal significance of over 400 years ago. They are customised initially with leather, rich embroidery made in gold and silver thread.
Skilled artisans from remote areas specialise in the making of juttis. The juttis also come in different variations called kussa or mojri. It is hand embroidered with silk threads, beads and sequins, reprised with modern elements for versatile styling in the present age.
Juttis were primarily handcrafted by artisans of Amritsar, Patiala, Ludhiana, Abohar, Fazilka and Faridkot. The natively honed craft of Punjabi jutti making, the artisans and sales are aided by the Footwear Design and Development Institute in Patiala.
