About Tilla

Tilla, which means hill in the Hindi language, is an Ahmedabad-based design studio established by Aratrik Dev Varman in 2011. Located in the vicinity of the National Institute of Design, Paldi, the label celebrates handmade textiles and the innovative craftsmanship of India.

Besides fashion, the label's portfolio has expanded to include wallpaper, interior textiles, textile art/installations, and a cafe. The label's main inspiration comes from nature and a deeper understanding of other cultures while travelling.

Handmade and self-reliant crafts are at the core of Tilla's values. Rather than following fashion trends that are often short-lived and transitory, the label aligns its production and design practices to bring growth to the ecosystem. At its heart, Tilla embodies a practical and minimalist aesthetic, outlining a modern approach but with traditional crafts. As part of its ethos, the label aims to be zero-waste by focusing on slow production.

A colourful country with a rich visual culture, India is also home to the opposite aesthetic of undyed cloths, shades of white, and the practical minimalism of cut-and-sew garments instead of draping. As it straddles these two worlds equally, Tilla celebrates both expressions with equal interest. The label offers clean-cut designs with practicality in mind.
