Urvashi Kaur
Urvashi Kaur, born and raised in an army family, grew up travelling all over India and visiting many small villages, where she developed a better understanding of the wealth of craft traditions India has to offer. Her year in Algeria was formative, introducing her to different cultures, which is now an ongoing theme she continues to explore through her work. Born in a low-income family, she was taught to be respectful and innovative with what she had by reusing and re-wearing what she had access to. She started experimenting with androgyny in her early years by wearing oversized clothes belonging to her brother, which she creatively styled in a way that defied conventional fashion. Urvashi was brought up in a creative and liberal atmosphere, further encouraged by her nani, a celebrated poetess and her mother, an artist.
