Afshan & Farida
Sole Stories is the brainchild of mother-daughter duo Farida & Afshan Virani. While Afshan takes pleasure in the design process of the label, Farida looks after the business aspect. Afshan’s journey as a shoe designer began way before the label was founded in 2018, as she believed that she needed to follow her true calling which happened to be designing shoes for a living. When she’s not designing shoes though, one can find her in a new country chasing sunsets or attending one concert after another. A major water baby, Afshan’s love for scuba diving knows no bounds. “I truly believe life is not meant to be lived in one place, fragile and shyly close to your comfort zone with only a handful of experiences to show for!” - Afshan muses.

The beginning…
The idea behind the label was sparked after trying to find the answer to a simple question - “If your sole could tell a tale, what are the stories it would share?” Other than a brief intensive course where Afshan made different kinds of shoes from scratch, she was mostly self-taught along with a little brush as a stylist in her career path.

The label’s USP lies in the fact that it believes in kindness towards animals, which has resulted in uber stylish vegan and handcrafted footwear for the women of today. A contemporary take on the ethical values that they hold close to their hearts, the idea is to push the customers to stay conscious and not give in to a trend-driven market.
Highlighted Collections
Sole Stories has recently branched into a new parallel called ‘Sole Stories Slow’ which is a concept very close to Afshan’s heart. Sole Stories Slow is a movement - an extension of a conscious lifestyle choice that moves towards seeing fashion as an expression of self, a part of the greater whole rather than a trend-driven indifferent exercise. It represents conscious and thoughtfully designed accessory pieces that are ethically made using sustainable vegan alternatives like pineapple leaf fibres and upcycled rubber tyres amongst others.

The Two-Tone Mules were seen on the pretty and kind American actress Mena Suvari who has starred in renowned movies like The American Beauty and American Pie.
Collaborations
Ace Indian designer Ridhi Mehra’s Lakme Fashion Week - Winter/Festive’19 show featured select pieces from Sole Stories’ collection, and the label also designed a specific "All red Fringe Mule" to compliment the print-play within her collection!
