Mati is the brainchild of Fatima K. Punjabi who launched the sustainable label in 2016. The designer’s childhood was a happy one, and full of designing from scraps of fabric for her barbie dolls. This is what sparked her interest in undertaking designing as a career! Another one of her hobbies was painting, which helped in keeping her inclined towards her creative endeavors.

The beginning…
Fatima was working as a copywriter with Lowe Libya’s ad agency. After she realised that she was meant for fashion, she decided on taking up a professional course with Sophia’s College to further hone her skills as a professional.
A Brief introduction about your brand/label?
Mati is soil in Hindi. Earthy aesthetics, colours and textured fabrics are the base of all designs made by the brand. These elements evolve as the brand evolves, just like growth depicted by soil and earth. Soil can be moulded into various shapes. Designer Fatima K. Punjaabi captures this essence into her clothes as a reflection of her personal style. The brand is all about comfortable silhouettes. The raw organic feel comes from sustainable and handwoven fabrics, shapes that are inspired by nature and colours that are earthy and natural. Mati is designed with every woman in mind! The brand uses only the best quality natural fabrics and pays close attention to every little detail. Mati focuses on minimalist designs and loose, flattering cuts that fit all body shapes and sizes
